Scatter

The virus is spreading. The fog is closing in. The only thing more dangerous than the infected is the choices you make to survive.

In Scatter, you lead a small squad of survivors through a post-apocalyptic wasteland where a power-plant meltdown has turned the population into the "Infected"—brain-dead, highly contagious husks that still mimic human behavior. This is not just a battle for territory; it is a battle for resources, sanity, and the lives of your teammates.

The core of the experience is the Squad Management System. Unlike traditional RTS games where units are mere numbers, your squad in Scatter has a will of its own. As you scavenge through the fog of war, you must decide who gets the medical kits and who is left to turn. But be warned: the world is as deceptive as it is cruel—some medical supplies are already tainted, and one wrong heal could accelerate the very infection you’re trying to stop.

Key Features & Mechanics

The Scavenger’s Strategy:

  • Tactical Command: Use classic RTS controls—left-click to select, drag to group, and right-click to kite and attack. Navigate your squad through a persistent Fog of War that only clears as you push deeper into the unknown.
  • Loot or Leave: Every expedition outside the bunker is a gamble. Roam the environment to find scrap and medical kits, but weigh the risk of an encounter against the reward of survival.
  • The Resource Panel: Monitor your gathered scraps and track the health of your squad in real-time. Managing your inventory is just as vital as managing your ammunition.

The "Spreading" Mechanic:

  • The Infected Bar: Constantly monitor your squadmates for signs of the virus. If the bar fills, the teammate you relied on becomes the monster you have to kill.
  • Tampered Medicine: Not all help is helpful. Looted medical kits can save a life or act as a catalyst for the virus. You must choose whether to trust your supplies or risk the infection spreading through your ranks.
  • Human-Like Horror: The infected aren't just zombies; they are victims of a power-plant disaster. They act with a lingering human instinct, making their movements unpredictable and their colonies highly organized.

Retro-Aesthetic & Atmosphere:

  • 8-Bit Hope vs. Monotone Doom: The world is rendered in a nostalgic 8-bit style where color represents life. Your squad is vibrant and full of "hope," while the infected world is drained into a haunting, monotone gray.
  • Synthesized Uncertainty: A retro-inspired soundtrack uses heavy bass and 2000s-style synthesizers to create a feeling of impending doom and the constant pressure of the unknown.
  • Low-Poly UI: A nostalgic interface that makes the player feel like they are operating a piece of legacy hardware in the middle of a collapse.

Decision-Based Survival:

  • The Moral Weight: Your choices echo through the game. Do you take every resource for yourself or share with those you find outside? Do you recruit new survivors to bolster your fire-power, or keep your group small to conserve food and medicine?
  • Authorities are Coming: Your goal is to survive long enough for rescue. Every second spent in the field is a second closer to salvation—or a second closer to being scattered by the virus.

Will you lead your squad to the light, or will you all become part of the spread?
